The airport in Jasionka was named after the Ulm family

Since March 24, 2024, the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport has been named after the Ulm family. Andrzej Duda, the President of the Republic of Poland, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and many other distinguished guests participated in the ceremonies, which took place on the National Day of Remembrance of Poles who saved Jews under the German occupation.

"From a historical perspective and the mindset of people living in Podkarpacie (Subcarpathian region), there are no more important figures than the blessed Ulm family. Thank you for your decision to name Rzeszów-Jasionka airport after this family at this particular moment. This airport is a window to the world, welcoming travelers from every corner of the globe. Since the Russian aggression against Ukraine, this airport in Jasionka has become a center of support for Ukraine in every possible way. This is a place that is truly recognized worldwide today. This incredibly important story about Poles will go out into the world, thanks to this airport, thanks to this initiative" - said President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, who, along with Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship (Subcarpathian region) Władysław Ortyl and airport president Adam Hamryszczak, unveiled a commemorative plaque in the central part of the passenger terminal.

The plaque includes a unique wooden panel prepared by the Podkarpackie artist Arkadiusz Andrejkow, depicting the Ulm family. Additionally, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro consecrated the renovated chapel and the painting of the blessed Ulm family.

During World War II, the Ulm family from Markowa provided shelter to Jewish families, fully aware that they were risking their lives. Józef and Wiktoria, along with their children, were executed by German gendarmes on March 24, 1944, exactly 80 years ago. Hundreds of Poles who rescued Jews during that time faced similar tragic fates.

For over two years now, the entire staff of the Jasionka airport has demonstrated equally heroic behavior by assisting Ukraine in its struggle. This is a beautiful example of continuing the spirit of support and solidarity.
